California Attorney General Indictment of Skilled Nursing Facility–Governance and Risk Management Issues

The California Attorney General announced indictment of a Los Angeles skilled nursing facility for alleged abuse and neglect resulting in death.  Click Here  for the link to the California Attorney General website page.  The Attorney General alleges that the nursing home was not equiped to handle a resident with decedent’s mental issues.  Of course, the case involves only allegations at this point; however, the allegations would naturally raise potential risk management and governance issues.  Risk management as to resident or patient assessment and a facility’s ability to provide necessary care for that resident or patient, and governance as to executive and board leadership.
